Where is Daylesford?
Sitting in the hills between Bendigo and Ballarat, Daylesford is only 90 minutes from the top of the Westgate Bridge so is an easy drive from Melbourne. British Airways in-flight magazine recently described Daylesford as the top “funky town” in the world. We are known not only for the mineral waters but the eclectic range of eateries and restaurants, beautiful accommodation and a vibrant community of alternative therapists. This website will tell you all about our fabulous little town.
Where are your Reiki courses held?
My Reiki courses in Daylesford are held in the Angel Room at my little Cute House in Hepburn Springs. Hepburn Springs is known for its health giving mineral waters that bubble up from the ground and is 3 minutes from Daylesford.
My house is just up the road from the Mineral Spas and Springs Reserve.
How often are the courses held?
I teach about five times per year.
If you are interested in learning just drop me a line and I can tell you when the next class is coming up.
It might seem a bit airy fairy but I always find that the right people end up on the exact right course at the exact right time. A higher power decides who does these Reiki healing courses. Once you have done the class you will understand why I make this statement.
The photo (left) is of my teaching room with my pride and joy – an original by Toni Carmine Solerno called Crimson Magdalene – she adds a beautiful ambiance to the teaching space.
Is the Reiki course offered during weekdays as well as weekends?
Yes, I can arrange Reiki courses either during the week or over the weekend. Mid week courses are only by request simply because most people work mid week and find weekend courses easier. So if mid week would work better for you , simply drop me a line and we can see if we can make some dates work for you.
How many people come on your Reiki courses?
Many people teach in big groups, I learned in a group of nine people and I struggled to have my questions answered fully, simply because there were so many in the group.
The maximum number of people I teach at one time is three – firstly because I want people to leave having had all the questions answered and secondly, that is all that can fit in my teaching room.
Learning in a smaller group gives people a really intimate experience and the opportunity to ask a lot questions and get a lot of personal attention. If you are a discerning type of person who likes that personalised type of experience, this course will be perfect for you. My courses are a little more expensive than most, but that is because you get a very up close and personal experience with me over the weekend and into the future.
How long do the Reiki courses run for?
If it is a weekend course, the weekend would look something like this:
Friday evening
We come together around 7pm
Saturday
We work from 10.30am until around 7.30pm
Sunday
We work from 11am to around 6pm
You have time in the morning on Saturday to practice and to go for a walk around the lake or in the mineral reserve. Maybe you could have a leisurely breakfast at one of our many great cafes, check out the Convent Gallery (picture right) or maybe you would just like to spent the morning at your accommodation and treat yourself to a big sleep in!
Times vary because each class brings with it a different set of humans with different things going on in their life. To this end the
course will go until you have learned everything you need to go away feeling confident with your new skills.
How will I know if I’m the right sort of person to come on one of your courses?
The sort of people I attract are looking for an experience, not just a course.
I have a strong corporate background but now work more from the heart (thank goodness) and I work with many different natural therapists and people who are “soul driven” to make a difference in the world. In my Reiki groups I tend to attract very grounded people from many different industries, but they generally have some sort of commercial connection be it their own small business or they work in a commercial setting of some sort. The one thing they all have in common is they are searching for more meaning, peace and clarity in their life.
In general my Reiki people tend to be natural therapists, professional people, corporate managers, auditors and accountants, small business owners, creative people, office workers, nurses, busy mums, and I also get a lot of people from the service industry.
Just shot me an email if you have any doubts about whether you are a good fit for the course. I choose who I work with carefully and I will honestly tell you if I feel my course won’t be right for you. I will also be more than happy to recommend another teacher if I think they will be a better fit for you.
What do we learn over the weekend?
Friday
evening you will learn the history of Reiki, you will learn to do Reiki on
yourself and you will receive your first fine tuning to the energy of Reiki.
Saturday
is a big day where you get two Reiki attunements and learn to do Reiki on
others. You also learn about metaphysics and why people get sick and
how the Reiki energy works to “heal”.
Sunday
is the final Reiki attunement and you get lots of practice in that day and also learn Reiki on pets (who love it!)
You also get a full workbook to take away with you explaining all that you learn over the weekend.
Will I get a Reiki Healing over the weekend?
Yes most definitely you will give and get many opportunities to participate in a Reiki Healing session. You leave at the end of the weekend fully able to do a full Reiki Healing on your friends and family. If you are an experienced natural therapy practitioner you will be able to use
Reiki immediately.
You will also learn how to do Reiki self healing sessions. This in my opinion is one of the greatest gifts I have ever been given – the ability to do a self Reiki healing session every day of my life for the rest of my life. If you choose to, you can also begin to use this wonderful gift in your life after the Friday night session.
If you are challenged by sickness or ill health, Reiki self healing session every day performed with the right intent can only help and support you on your self healing journey, providing of course that you are ready to take that journey.
Will it be right for me to use Reiki immediately after the class?
Reiki is interesting in that you leave on Sunday as a Reiki practitioner with a skill you can use immediately although I would recommend you wait about six months to allow the energy to fully imbed before using it professionally. Although in saying that someone who is already working with clients all the time can go out and use it almost immediately because they are used to working with energy and people. It takes sometime for the energy to fully imbed and for you to fully understand what you have got. Because I teach traditionally you are going to get a lot of information over the weekend that will take a while to sink in. Like anything the more you practice Reiki, the more skilled you will become.
What are the different levels of Reiki?
This course is Reiki Level I – which teaches you to work with people who are present in the room. There are only two other levels Reiki II and Masters. In those teachings the energy becomes more refined. Level II allows you to work with people at distance and you will be entrusted with 3 Reiki symbols. Masters allows you to teach and be entrusted with the Master symbol. That’s all there is to Reiki – on one hand it is incredibly simple but on the other hand it is so deep you will keep learning for years after.
When can I do Reiki II?
I recommend waiting 6 months before you do Level II so the energy of Level I can fully imbed and you have practiced your positions and have a full understanding of the energy. The only exception would be if you have someone close to you who is very sick or in real need of help and you can’t be with them in person.
Can I do Reiki II with you if I learned Reiki I with someone else ?
No, I prefer you to have done Level I with me first. There are many different styles of teaching and it is unfair to my people if I have to stop and explain things that may differ slightly. However, in saying that, one of my current Masters learned from someone else and managed to catch herself up by crewing my events many times, so I never say never, but it is unlikely and you would need a compelling reason why you didn’t want to work with your previous teacher.
Why don’t you teach Level I and Level II in the same weekend?
Please do not be drawn into these types of courses because they are NOT recognised by the Reiki Associations for a reason. Reiki taught over a period of time allows not only for in depth knowledge to be passed but it also respects the traditions of Reiki. I would go so far as to say – if you think, at the end of one of my courses that you could have fully learned and understood Reiki Level I AND II in two days – I will give you your money back and you can go do one of the quick and dirty courses. I can state with utmost honesty that no one has ever thought they were ready to do Level II on the second day of one of my teaching events.
My traditional training saw me trained in Level I over two and a half days, my Master training took over 12 months to complete and I teach in the exact same time frames because I believe it works best this way.
Why are your workshops more expensive than some others I’ve seen – I’ve even seen people doing free courses – why is that?
Each teacher is free to set the price of their own courses and the cost of a course varies widely between each teacher which can be confusing. Because I come from a business background I value my time greatly and I see no reason why Reiki should not be honoured and charged in a similar way to my other courses and workshops.
I work from the belief that the Reiki energy is universal and it is given to you freely but my time to stand and teach you is very valuable. I put a lot of energy and effort into the weekends and believe I should be well compensated for that effort.
I ask you to ask yourself, would you rather be taught by someone who values their time and knowledge or by someone who is fearful of charging a fair price for their time? Most of my people come from business backgrounds and can easily afford my fees and understand that you get what you pay for.
If the price is an issue for you, then I would recommend you seek one of many wonderful teachers listed on any of the Reiki association sites.
What if I want to do a Level I refresher course?
In general I prefer not to re-teach Level I when someone has already learned with another teacher but if you feel drawn to work with me, then I would consider each and every case on its on merit. So simply drop me an email if you are considering doing the program again. My students are welcome to return at any time and refresh their knowledge in return for crewing on a teaching weekend.
Can I do my Masters with you if I learned Level I and II from other teachers?
The short answer here is no. My time is very limited and my Masters program runs over a year. To make the most of the time, I simply find it easier to teach people who already have worked with me, have crewed several weekends with me and have helped other students work through their learning before they commit to the program.
What will I get from the weekend?
Reiki is very much a journey. Everyone always reports getting much more than they expected but find it hard to put into words what they actually got. You learn a technique but it is also a journey into self. One that asks you to become the best you possibly be at any given time. When I first did Level I – I had no idea what I had signed up for. I just knew I had to do it.
If you get a strong sense you have to do Reiki, then it will be right for you and the right people and circumstances will come together for you to learn. Each time I teach it is different. The group energy determines a lot of what you take away and every group takes something different away in their heart.
Who can do Reiki?
Anyone with love in their heart, an open mind and a desire to be of service to others. It is unconditional and is a gift anyone can learn.
Do I have to work on other people and become a practitioner?
No, you can just learn to do Reiki on yourself and if that’s all you do then that is just perfect. In fact that is all I did for the first few years of my Reiki journey. Not everyone wants to be a practitioner of Reiki but all my Reiki channels use their energy for good in many varied situations every day of their life.
I have heard Reiki is wonderful for children?
Yes, indeed most children love Reiki. There has been some wonderful work done with children, who generally do not judge as adults do, so they accept the energy as something they recognise is good for them.
Pets have an equally joyous time as they receive Reiki energy. You could try doing Reiki on the chooks at the Cute House if you like.
Reiki is also wonderful if you are one of the new energy children or if you have one of these children. You may not know about these children but you will know if you have one or if you are one because they are very different.
These special souls are generally gentle, kind and loving souls who find the “real world” quite difficult and this difficulty often leads them to become out of control where they can cause themselves and those around them a lot of angst. Reiki helps these very gifted and special children, sometimes called Indigos, Crystals, Rainbows, Gen Y, Cultural Creatives – doesn’t matter what you call them, they are generally highly creative and are naturally drawn to the healing arts or the environment.
Learning Reiki will help you understand these children more and be able to help them, or if you are one, it will help you understand yourself more and give you the confidence to use your special gifts to help the planet and the humanity on the planet.
Can I use Reiki on my Horses?
Yes, most certainly horses and most all animals LOVE Reiki. Of course if you have a particularly difficult animal, I may recommend you seek professional help, but if its a loving animal who generally responds well to touch at the best of times, then Reiki will enhance that touch ten fold. I don’t specifically teach how to work with horses but once you have completed Level I, then I can put you in touch with someone who can teach you the specifics of working with horses.
Is accommodation included in the course?
No, the course doesn’t include accommodation. Most of my people travel up from Melbourne and beyond and they like to stay around the area, partaking in the full “rest and relax” atmosphere of the town and they like to experience some of the many styles of beautiful accommodation we have on offer.
How easy is Reiki to incorporate into the massage industry?
It is very easy to incorporate into a massage treatment and pardon the pun but it goes hand in hand with any natural therapy or western medicine treatment. Reiki is unconditional, it doesn’t pick or choose where it works, it simply works for the good of the person receiving the treatment. Reiki is expansive in nature, so you will find it just enhances whatever you are currently doing with a client.
The lovely thing is, it not only benefits the client, but the energy helps to sustain you as well. Reiki always fills you up first, so when you are working with the energy, its like you are getting a treatment too. This will give you more sustainable energy both while working with clients, but also in your day to day activities. Many therapists use the energy to settle a stressed client for a few minutes before they start the massage, but there are many additional ways you can use Reiki alongside other modalities.
Do the students you teach usually have a prior understanding of energy?
I get a mix of students, some come to it, like I did, with no prior experience at all and others could have been working with energy previously. I teach traditionally which takes a very grounded approach and I find the type of people who attract to me are very grounded and practical type of people. I rarely attract the “wafty woo woo” category, instead my people tend to be natural therapists, professional people, corporate managers, small business owners, creative people, office workers, nurses, busy mums, and people from the service industry.
Reiki gives an amazing foundation and because the energy itself is highly expansive – what tends to happen for my people is that they get to join the dots which allows them to expand into all sorts of new areas and possibilities simply because the foundations are solid. I find a lot people are working with energy but find it hard to negotiate the real world. When you have a grounded foundation, it makes it much easier to bring your gifts to the world.
What I should expect as an outcome to having completed Reiki?
There are no guarantees of what you will “get” because everyone takes away something different from the weekend. In general people take away a greater sense of calm, connection and inspiration to get out there and be all they can be. In a healing journey people have reported
improvements in their health and wellbeing.
The following testimonials from some of my students may give you an idea of what they got from the weekend:

What if I forget what I’ve learned?
The Reiki energy is with you forever but if you want to refresh your knowledge or skills or just hang out in the wonderful energy of a teaching weekend again, then any person who attends a Level I class with me can return as a helper free of charge on future weekends. In fact I encourage students to return because that is how I learnt so much about Reiki. Anytime there was an opportunity to be a helper I was there and the knowledge just deepened every time I attended as crew.
You also take a full workbook home with you covering everything we have learnt over the weekend.
Do you have private Reiki courses?
Yes, if you wish to book a private class for whatever reason – you might be rich and famous or just want to do it with family members or friends only, then I can arrange that for you. The cost would be adjusted accordingly.
Do I live reasonably close to Daylesford – can I drive home each night?
Most of my people come up from Melbourne as a get away for the weekend but yes, if you live somewhere close like Woodend, Ballarat, Ballan, Castlemaine, Kyneton, Bacchus Marsh or Creswick you could commute. Just remember all roads in and out of Daylesford are prone to wild life jumping out when least expected. I wouldn’t recommend anywhere further than 40 minutes away because its a big weekend so you will be tired and driving around on country roads at night alone isn’t a good thing at any time. We have many different types of accommodation in Daylesford and Hepburn Springs so maybe check out some of the cheaper alternatives and perhaps stay over so you can totally immerse in the teachings and give yourself a little rest at the same time.
But if you really want to commute in and out each day – I’m ok with that too.
Do you only teach on weekends?
No, this is what I do full time so mid week teaching events can be arranged. I generally set weekends simply because most people work mid week. I’m very flexible in the way I can work, so do not hesitate to ask if you have something that isn’t listed on this site.
Does the Reiki course have to commence on the Friday or could it be done over two days, Saturday and Sunday only?
You can start the course any day of the week but my courses always run for two and a half days.
How do I know if Reiki is right for me?
Reiki is a journey and if it feels right for you to do my course then you will just know it’s the right thing for you. I’m happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have and I’m also happy to give you the names of some of my students who have been through the weekend too.
If you are the one we have been waiting for, and you will know in your heart if you are, then please let me know as soon as possible and we shall arrange a firm date for a teaching weekend.
